Elizabeth Larkam is a magician. There is no other word for what she does — and for what happens to you when you encounter her work.
I met Elizabeth years ago and felt immediately that something different was happening. She was the first teacher I encountered who had found a genuine way to turn the science of movement into embodiment — not as a concept, not as a teaching methodology, but as a lived experience that happens in the body and that stays there.
What she does goes beyond the physical, the mental, and the emotional. It moves into what Joseph Pilates himself called the spirit. She is one of the most spirited teachers I have ever learned from — and she has found ways to meld disciplines from the most scientific to the most mystical into something that is coherent, practical, and profoundly transformative. In her hands, they are not opposites. They are the same thing, approached from different angles.
"Without her finding her own way and becoming the beautiful teacher she is, I would probably never have been inspired enough to trust my own exploration — my own openness to always learn, and to always be grateful for every experience life offers."
She was also the first teacher who showed me what it looks like to truly help the vulnerable and the injured — not to fix them, but to help them reclaim ownership of their own body. To return independence. To open the door to healing not as a destination but as a continuous, curious, courageous act of listening to what the body knows.
That inspiration lives in everything I do. The bravery to go deeper than technique. The trust in what cannot always be explained. The belief that the body holds limitless intelligence — from its deepest cell structure to its outermost edges — and that our job as teachers is to help people access it.
Inside IVA you will find Elizabeth's recorded workshops — her movement explorations, her integration of science and spirit, her extraordinary ability to take the most complex ideas about the body and turn them into something you feel rather than understand. You will hear her teach in a way that opens doors you didn't know were there.
This is not mysticism for its own sake. It is the most complete version of what the Pilates method was always intended to be — a practice that works the whole human being. The body that breathes and moves and suffers and heals. The mind that thinks and questions and lets go. The spirit that Joseph spoke of and that Elizabeth has spent her life learning how to reach.
She is a mentor who will set you free. Not from the method — deeper into it. Into the parts of it that most teachers have never been shown. I wish you the wonder, the precision, and the profound liberation that her work carries. There is nothing quite like it.
Elizabeth continues to teach, explore, and share her work with teachers who are ready to receive it. If what you find here calls you further, reach out to her directly. Get in touch →
