Authenticity in a Noisy World. A Reflection on Social Media for Pilates Teachers

A few years ago, social media felt very different.

You could post a picture from the studio, share a thought about teaching, maybe a small moment from your day. And that was enough. It felt simple. Human.

Today it feels… louder.

Algorithms change constantly.
Trends come and go in a matter of weeks.
Artificial intelligence can generate endless posts, videos, captions.

And suddenly the space feels crowded.

For many Pilates teachers I speak with, social media has become one more thing on an already long list.

You are teaching classes.
Running a studio.
Answering messages.
Managing clients.
Planning workshops.
Taking care of your own practice.

And somewhere in between, you are supposed to become a content creator too.

It can feel overwhelming.

Social Media Matters — But It Should Not Take Over Your Life

Let’s be honest about one thing.

Today, social media matters.

For many studios and teachers, it is the first place people encounter you. Before they step into your studio. Before they meet you in person.

Your presence there helps people understand:
Who you are.
How you teach.
What you care about.

But that does not mean social media should run your life.

It should not steal your energy.
It should not make you feel like you are constantly behind.
And it certainly should not make you feel like you have to become someone else.

Because in the end, what truly connects people to you is not a perfect strategy.

It is authenticity.

My Own Journey with Social Media

I will be honest with you.

Social media has not always felt natural to me.

I love teaching.
I love working with teachers.
I love studying the method.

But sitting down and thinking about “content” was not something that came easily.

For a long time I asked myself questions like:

What should I post?
How often?
What works with the algorithm?
Am I doing enough?

Maybe you recognize some of these thoughts.

Over time, something important became clear to me.

People do not connect with polished perfection.

They connect with real presence.

When I speak to the camera the same way I would speak to a client…
When I share something that truly matters to me…
When I stop trying to perform and simply show up…

That is when people respond.

Video Helps People Feel Who You Are

One thing I have learned along the way is that video is powerful.

Not because it is trendy.

But because it allows people to feel you.

Your voice.
Your energy.
Your way of explaining things.

Many teachers tell me they feel uncomfortable with video. They think they need perfect lighting, perfect words, perfect editing.

You don’t.

Sometimes the best way to think about it is this:

Imagine you are sending a short message to a client.
Or speaking to a colleague you respect.

That’s it.

No performance.
No judgment.

Just you sharing something you care about.

The World Is Changing Fast — And None of Us Has to Figure It Out Alone

Another reality today is that social media is evolving very quickly.

Algorithms shift.
New formats appear.
Tools change.

Trying to keep up with everything alone can feel exhausting.

And here is something I have learned over the years as both a teacher and a business owner:

You do not have to figure everything out by yourself.

Getting support is not a weakness.

It is often the smartest thing you can do.

Just like we continue learning about movement, anatomy, and teaching — we can also learn about how to communicate our work more effectively.

Consistency Matters — But It Has to Be Sustainable

Consistency is important.

Showing up regularly helps people recognize you. Trust you. Understand your work.

But consistency should be sustainable.

Not something that adds stress to your already full life.

This is where having a clear approach — even a simple system — can make a big difference.

A way to create content that feels natural.
A rhythm that fits your schedule.
Ideas that reflect your voice.

Not someone else’s.

A Conversation We Wanted to Open

Because this topic comes up again and again with teachers in our community, we decided to bring in someone who works with this every day.

This month inside the IVA Pilates Inner Circle we are welcoming Char Dixon, a content coach who helps small business owners create social media that actually fits their life.

Char spent nearly 20 years leading marketing and content for major brands like Simple, Dove, Lynx, Dune London, New Look, Waitrose, No7 and Boots. Today she works with small business owners, helping them simplify their content so it becomes clear, manageable and even enjoyable.

Her philosophy is simple:

Small business life is wild. Creating content doesn’t have to be.

And honestly, that is something many of us need to hear.

Because marketing is not a short-term fling.
It is more like a long-term relationship with your business.

It needs rhythm.
Clarity.
And a way of working that fits your real life.

Show Up, Stand Out

In this special session Char will guide us through a different approach to social media.

Not copying trends.
Not trying to look like everyone else.

But learning how to bring more of your own voice, personality and point of view into your content.

The session is called:

Show up, stand out: Adding clarity, confidence and calm to your social media strategy

Together we’ll explore how to create content that attracts genuine clients — not just likes and views.

You’ll leave with a more intentional and sustainable way of approaching social media. One that fits your business, your energy, your life and your goals.

And perhaps most importantly — one that feels like you.

Join Us

Normally these sessions are reserved for Inner Circle members.

But this time we decided to open the doors.

If this topic speaks to you, you are warmly invited to join us.

You can simply join us live for free and learn together with our community of teachers.

👉 Save your spot here

Because behind every post, every video and every message online, there is just a teacher sharing their work and passion with the world.

And when that sharing is real — people feel it.
